   Baking soda is the best thing you can use.

   This website however, cautions you from overusing it or using it if you have braces or a permanent retainer:

   This is what it says:

   There are whitening mouthwashes and I actually just picked up a tooth brush that claims to help whiten. There are those home strips that you can use, they are actually quite good and pretty cheap. While trying to whiten your teeth avoid dark colored foods and liquids (i.e., coffee, dark colas, etc etc).

   I am a heavy smoker myself and used to have stained teeth.. And I mean really badly stained.

   Brushing your teeth after every meal will prevent your teeth from getting any worse. And of course keeping away from coffee, tea and smoking will help too.

   The crest whitening strips work pretty good. I notice a difference the first few times I used it, but the more I used them though the less difference I saw.
